Weather is important to all pilots.
Weather forecasts and observations are useful for planning, picking a good day, or dissecting a day's conditions after the event. Glider pilots need weather knowledge to find lift, and have to "read" the day to fly successfully: it's one of the pleasures of the sport.
Aviation forecasts - These forecasts are made by the Bureau
for aviation use, and are quite detailed. However they are usually current for half a day or less, and are hard to understand if you don't know the codes and abbreviations used. You'll need to give username 'bomw0007' and password 'aviation' (don't type in the quotes) to reach them.
South Australian weather observations
- The Renmark observations on this page are from the Bureau's automatic weather station at Renmark aerodrome.
- Another local weather station (not an official BoM site) provides:
- Weather now,
a graph of today's
temperature development and last
week's, and past records
- The Adelaide temperature trace has been plotted here in the format glider pilots use. Thanks to Peter Temple and Mark Newton.
