How
I built the 12 inch scope
Ready
to go!
Getting ready to mail the mirror away. The safest way I found was to mount the mirror face down on 4 blocks, place a cloth on the top of the glass and screw the lid on so it is a tight fit. |
|
I
found the glass was not an exact circle, and it only fitted in one way.
I marked the location of a chip in the glass on the edge of the timber
so it is easy to put back in the box.

This
is a shot looking into the mirror and seeing the zoom eyepiece
reflection. I have found the mirror attracts all the dust!
|
|
I
bought some sheet lead (12kg) that is placed in the rear. All painted,
balanced & ready to go...
|
|
I
have generally noticed the eyepiece is installed on the left side of
a telescope. I don't know the reason for this, I put mine on the right
side, just to be different.

I bought a Vixen LV-Zoom eyepiece. Being so easy to change the zoom the helical focuser proved to be a slow way of getting focus. I got a Meade 2" rack-and-pinion focuser. The rack-and-pinion is much easier to focus. I'm using a riflescope as the finder, it works ok. I'd really like to use a laser as the finders scope, but a bit expensive for the time. |
