In Essence,
anyone can be a volunteer within the SES. There is a diverse range
of positions and roles, both operational and support which requires
different skills and abilities.
However, in
saying that, many of the roles require a great deal from a volunteer
both mentally and physically. While every volunteer can be invaluable
in a team, a certain level of commitment is essential.
If you are fit,
agile and confident, you may well have what it takes to be trained
in rescue from heights. If you have highly developed analytical,
management and planning skills, you may strive to be trained in
Map Reading and Navigation, Land Search Operations or Team Leader.
If communication is your forte, written and/or verbal, being trained
in Communications may well suit you.
The
only personal attributes required to join the
State Emergency Service are:
-
A willingness to learn
- Ability
to well both in a team and individually
- Confidence
in your own abilities and potential
- Ability
to learn to trust and and be trusted within a team
- Ability
to accurately follow direction but, most importantly you must
be willing to have fun while you learn to save lives.
